Charles Herbert Westneat
Charles Herbert Westneat, born in 1857 in Prahran, was the youngest of the 4 boys born to Ezra and Mary. Charles became a Monumental Mason by trade and in 1882, he married Mary Sarah Frost. Sarah was the daughter of Robert Frost (b. 1831 Co Clare Ireland) and Ellen Power Frost (b. 1829, Co Limerick Ireland) (married 1853 Co Clare Ireland).
In 1899, the Roll of Voters lists Charles a mason living on Alfred Street in South Yarra. In 1903, Mary Sarah was a witness at the marriage of her brother-in-law William Sheridan Westneat to Ellen Flentjar which took place in Prahran. At some point, Charles and Mary Sarah moved to New Zealand. The assumption must be made that it was at a point that the children were grown enough to remain in Victoria or return to Victoria to live as some of the children lived their lives in Victoria, some in New Zealand.
Charles and Mary Sarah lived in Napier, New Zealand for a period of time and Charles died on 27 Dec 1936 in Hastings, New Zealand. Mary Sarah died in Hastings as well on 24 August 1937. Both are buried in the Hastings Cemetery along with their daughter Ida Ellen. Interestingly, Ida has a headstone and Charles, who cut letters in monuments his whole life has no marker.
